Call for Students: Examination for New Trinity Diplomatic Syllabus

Forewords:

Since the new syllabus of Trinity Diplomatic Examination contains a lot of new elements, the studying contents will be quite different from that of the previous years. Now, David Leung has adjusted the teaching programs of music theory, music history and compositional theory. The followings are some new courses offered in the year 2017 onward.

Dear students and colleagues,



David Music Center is going to offer some new courses to suit the new diplomatic examination syllabus of Trinity College, London.

The courses are listed as follows:



1.      LMusTCL preparatory Unit I:

Piano Music Development in Historical Context (Baroque to 20th Century)



Time: Monday morning: 10:00am—11:30am

Time: Tuesday morning: 9:30am – 11:00pm

Time: Monday evening: 7:15pm—8:45pm



2.      LMusTCL Preparatory Unit II:

Analyzing and Composing for Piano Variations and String Quartet in Romantic Harmonic Idioms



   Time: Tuesday morning: 12:30pm – 2:00pm



3.      AMusTCL Extensive Preparatory Course (based on new syllabus and set piece)

4.      LTCL Music Composition Part I Study:

Writing for string quartet and woodwind quartet in contemporary music style

(students will learn 20th century compositional techniques)



5.      LTCL Music Composition Part II Study:

a.       Writing for Variations and Cadenza passages in Tonal Harmonic style

b.      Orchestration Techniques

c.       Writing programmatic incidental orchestral music

d.      Writing string quintet in Late Romantic style

Call for Students for Lmus and Fmus Preparatory Units

Dear all, colleagues, friends and students,

It seems too busy for me in this few months to call for students since I have prepared my research proposal for the International Symposioum held at Geneve University in this coming October.

After the AMus examination, I would like to call for students for the following preparatory units.

1. FMus Research Seminars  (New) - two students are waiting more students to form a study group for reading papers and determine the research topics for FMusTCL.
Since this is a special arrangement for students, when the interested parties contact me, please state your background and topic area, so that I can prepare different choices of papers to discuss in the seminar.

Monday (12:30pm to 2:00pm)-- start at any time.

2. LMusTCL Preparatory Unit 1- Music Analysis and Interpretation.
    Wednesday 11.30pm to 1:00pm -- start at any time

Calling for students in late August 2014

Dear Students Friends, and Colleagues,

 
David Music Center is calling for students for the courses about Styles and Analysis of Symphonic Works in Historical Context.
 
 
1. LMusTCL Preparatory Unit II: The Rise of Symphonic Classicism in the Historical Context
 
2. LMusTCL Preparatory Unit VI: The Development of Romanticism and Romantic Ideals in Symphonic Music

These courses aim to :
1. Strengthen Students the knowledge of the symphonic music in Classicism and Romatnicism, as well as the genre and styles analysis.  
 
2. Preparing students to step into the Set Piece (Mahler Symphonic Study) study of the LMus examination next year.

We will start two timeslots which may be convenient to meet different requirements of students.

One is in the morning and one is in the afternoon. 
 
1. Wednesday 8:30am to 10:00pm (12 lessons) in Late August
 
2. Tuesday 11:30am to 1:00pm (12 lessons) in Late August
 

 
In addition, the normal compositional course is still calling for students:
 
Course: Composing for 20th Century Musical Styles

The above course aims to teach 20th Century Compositional Theory starting from Debussy's Impressionism, Schoenberg's Expressionism of Twelve Tone Method Composing Theory to Stravinsky's Primitivism and Neo Classicism and Ravel's Diversity of Styles in Composition.

The new course offering in March is as follows:

The LMus Prep. Course for Nov 2014 Exam have started in December 2013.
The course will contain about 4 separate units centering on four main areas.

New Course on December 2013



Dear students and friends,


The LMus Prep Course for Nov 2014 Exam will start on December 2013. 
The course will contain about 4 separate Units centering on four main areas:

1. Music Analysis and Interpretation for Songs and Piano Repertories
     -- focused on score/formal analysis on short piece

2. Revision on Musical Styles in Historical Context
     -- focused on basic historical knowledge on 
        the development of musical genres and styles

3. Set Piece Study A or B (upon students' choice)

4. Papers Revision and The Techniques of Answering Essay Question

     -- All papers will be provided

Since the topics discussed in each Unit is rather flexible and it depends on
student's experience and ability, the details of each topic thus are not fixed now.

New Courses in December 2013


 
Dear students and friends,

December is a month of hoildays. Hope all of you having a fruitful new year.

David Leung is now recruiting students for the following courses. There is no fixed day to start the courses. When enough students come (4 - 5 students), we can start the course at once.

1. Monday 11:00am to 1:00pm. (December any date)

    LMusTCL preparation comprehensive course:
     Contents include:
     1. Music Analysis and Interpretation Revision
         (Part A  Questions)
     2. Music History and Styles Revision
         (Part B Questions)
     3. Set Pieces Study (either Haydn Sonata or Schubert Schwangensang)
          Choose by students in the group.
     4. Papers Revison
         (Practicisng Papers)

Students who want to prepare examination next year (May or November) is recommended to start learning now. We will start the course when students are enough for a group.
